Also known as fatty sand.  It is a light, grey coloured sand and is used when a light coloured mortar is desired.
The main use for this dand is mortaring brickwork.  The standard blend for mortar is 6 parts sand to 1 part cement and 1 part hydrated lime.  Brick sand is also the sand used under pool liners for above ground pools.
